The Football League will publish figures tomorrow detailing the fees paid to agents in the past six months.
Football League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney said the full figure will be £5m.This means Leeds' activities make up nearly one-third of the overall amount.
Chairman Gerald Krasner insists the payments were a one-off expense to enable the club to offload several high-profile and high-earning players.
"Those costs were incurred in sorting out the players that left," said Krasner.
"We have saved many times over the amount spent on agents fees," added Krasner. "Due to the one-off payments to agents, we have managed to reduce the annual wage bill from £43m to £18m.
"The amount spent on agents will be hugely reduced for the next six months."
The last time the Football League published figures in July 2004, the full figure was £1.4m.
