He is currently on trial at Elland Road following his departure from Premiership champions Arsenal in the summer.
He recently had a trial with St Etienne in France before trying his luck again in England with Leeds and played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 friendly at League One side Oldham Athletic on Friday.
Stromberg revealed that despite interest from Premiership side Portsmouth, Shaaban would like a move to Leeds.
"Leeds is clearly our first alternative, because he will be the first choice keeper there whilst he would be the back-up at Portsmouth," Stromberg told Expressen. "He played all 90 minutes (at Oldham) and was pleased with his own display."
