The YEP report that the Jamaican midfielder is to travel to Dublin and work on his fitness with a two-match ban set to delay his involvement in Leeds’ new campaign.
Austin is one game into a three-match suspension imposed after dismissal in a 2-1 defeat to Brighton in April and he will not be available until United travel to Leicester City during the second weekend of August.
Brian McDermott used Austin for half-an-hour against Stevenage on Tuesday having left him out of Saturday’s defeat at Walsall but the Leeds boss will assess other options against Nuremberg this weekend with the 2013-14 season eight days away.
McDermott said: “He will go to Dublin, he’ll play against Shelbourne, he’ll get 90 minutes under his belt and he should be spot on.”
Leeds have doubts over the fitness of Matt Smith, Jason Pearce and Ross McCormack ahead of Saturday’s clash with Nuremberg.
