In an interview in the Sunday Mirror Bates says: "He's got rid of all the old baggage he acquired and now it's up to Kevin. He's got the backroom staff he needs.
"We can no longer blame anyone else for what happens here. I came here to give Leeds a Premiership club again and we're serious about doing it.
"In a year's time we shall come out of the dark days of debt. If we hit our budget this year we'll make a profit despite the fact we've got a £14m wage bill, which we inherited. This is fantastic news.
"David O'Leary has been paid off, as have other ex-employees like Terry Venables, Peter Reid and Brian Kidd."
