He admitted that discussions on signing the 35-year-old with Spireites boss Roy McFarland had been made but said: "It was only in terms of what sort of player we'd like. I do not think Batty wants to play football anymore and I don't think he'd make us a better team.
"You could not play a midfield four with him, he has not got the legs. Opponents would go past Batty. He cannot move around or tackle as well as he used to."
