The Dutchman, still only 30, was top goalscorer with Portuguese club Beira Mar last season, but was released in the summer.
He arrived in England from Tilburg WII in May 1998, joining The Whites for £1.5m, before spells with Huddersfield Town, Preston North End and Oldham.
