Discarded by David O'Leary and Terry Venables, David Batty rolled back the years with his usual gritty display on Saturday and hopefully he will now be a regular in the team again.
Assistant manager Kevin Blackwell, speaking in the Yorkshire Post said: "David Batty gave us the experience that we knew we needed.
"He had been bombed out of Leeds United for the past 18 months but I thought when I came here that he could do a job very similar to Stuart McCall at Sheffield United, when people had said his legs were gone.
"But David's head is still very bright and he knows how to play the game. What we had to do was get him back into condition knowing that the old bones are creaking now and again.
"He lasted the game and he was still chasing at the end so there is life in David Batty. Whoever wrote him off was wrong to do so.
"I was so delighted for him because he goes back a long way here.
"I just want him to lead us through patches like this. Everyone knows David Batty is Leeds United through and through.
"He is Leeds United and he has got to show others what it means to be a Leeds United player."
Peter Reid must be applauded for his faith in the Leeds legend.
