He signed a two-year contract only after full assurances from every member of the board.
Blackwell was unanimously voted into office last Friday by the directors, with an announcement expected last Monday.
Blackwell, however, was furious when he was informed by director Simon Morris that the deal was temporarily on hold, with suggestions that the board were still looking at other possible candidates.
"This is a hell of a job and I needed to know I had their total support,” he said. "Simon Morris rang to apologise and I’m concentrating on stabilising this club. The main thing is making sure we survive."
