According to the YEP, Blackwell is top of the short-list for the post. He was a target for Southampton earlier this year and the highly-rated coach has attracted interest from a number of other clubs.
Director Peter Lorimer today refused to confirm the names in the frame for the job, but says the board are making moves. "We have discussed several names and are handling the situation," said Lorimer. "We're aware of the urgency surrounding the appointment of a new manager, but this is a big decision and must be right for the football club.
"It's one of the most important decisions the club has ever made because it has to be right for the future."
The current board have played down any speculation linking them with Iain Dowie and insist no one connected with the club has made any approach to the Crystal Palace boss.
