"You've two people, in Eddie and David, who the fans adore," he said.
"They will probably be just on Eddie's side because he would not have done something like this unless he had good reason. Batty's performances, though, have not been that bad this season and that's where fans might find it difficult.
"If there has been a difference of opinion then it's up to the manager to make sure those differences are kept away from the pitch. If he (Gray) cannot sort that out then where does it leave him as a manager? But it's clear there's disruption and this is just the surface of it."
