United have totalled four points from their three games so far and entertain Nottingham Forest in the Championship on Saturday at Elland Road with everyone hoping for a repeat of the opening-day win over Derby.
Blackwell said: "The whole club has started from scratch and we are at the start of a new era. The players are gelling together. Sometimes people seem to expect more because it is Leeds United.
"I still want to bring in two or three players. I think that the team is three-quarters of the way built. But overall, I am quite pleased as we are competitive.
In six or seven games time, we will be fully bedded in. It is not just the players but the staff as well.
"I look at Crystal Palace last season. It wasn't until the start of January that they woke up. It isn't how you start but how you finish that matters."
