It has been an eventful day for the midfielder – he has also been banned for six matches by UEFA following his stamp on Malaga midfielder Gerardo during a UEFA Cup tie in December.
Bowyers move to his boyhood heroes came on the same day as he was given a six-match European ban after Uefa found him guilty of "an act of serious assault" during Leeds' Uefa Cup defeat against Malaga last month.
Uefa said the ban would "take effect immediately", but Bowyer will not actually serve the suspension until his club plays again in European club competition and will last for six years.
