Bowyer wants to stay

Bowyer, who was offered a new five-year contract at Leeds at the turn of the year, was close to signing for Liverpool in the summer and since the collapse of that transfer has been constantly linked with other clubs.

However, Bowyer has expressed his desire to stay at Elland Road under new boss Terry Venables: "I am comfortable here, with the players and the manager and I know I have the Leeds' fans backing," he said.

"It will take a lot for me to leave. If I do decide to leave then it will be hard, but I am hoping things will change.

"It's a hard situation because I really don't want to leave here, as mad as it sounds. People say 'Why haven't you signed?', but there is more to it than that.

"It's going to have to be something that pulls me away because everybody here is so good. I know people will say 'I am sick of hearing him say that', but that's the way it goes."

On his proposed summer transfer to Liverpool Bower said: "I just didn't feel comfortable with the move at the time and if you are going to make a move, you have to be sure."
