The 35-year-old made 26 appearances for United last season and says he is up for the challenge of trying to retain his place in Neil Warnock's starting line-up.
"I'm delighted to sign the contract and get things sorted," he told the club's official website. "The gaffer has made a lot of changes over the summer and I'm looking forward to being a part of things.
"There's a great spirit here and everything has gone well in pre-season.
"Some good players have been brought in, and there is plenty of competition, but I'm more than up for the challenge and will hopefully play a part in a successful Leeds United side."
