A report in The Sun suggests that chairman Gerald Krasner has promised to break with recent tradition and spend on new blood, to give the club the best possible chance of an instant return to the Premiership.
Leeds have not paid a transfer fee since Terry Venables signed Nick Barmby from Liverpool in a £2.75m deal, almost two years ago.
Krasner said: "We had one strategy for staying up and one for relegation. And unfortunately on Sunday, we had to start implementing the latter.
"It involves player sales, unfortunately, to balance loss of income. But we’ll be buying some replacements and, let’s be honest, buying in the First Division is not as costly as in the Premiership."
