Massimo Cellino confirmed today that Carbone parted company with Leeds on Friday, little over two months after joining as a technical advisor.
The former Bradford City forward came to Elland Road shortly after Cellino’s takeover of the club in April, assisting the new owner in his restructuring of the Championship side.
He subsequently became coach of Leeds’ Under-21 squad, replacing Neil Redfearn, has now moved on just a week before the start of the season.
Cellino said Carbone had resigned for “family reasons” but it is understood that the relationship between the two men deteriorated badly in the past month.
Cellino said: “Benito has gone. He has gone for family reasons. A family member (of his) is ill.”
Redfearn has reverted to his old position as development coach following Carbone’s departure.
He and first-team assistant boss Junior Lewis took responsibility for Wednesday’s friendly at Glenavon, with Carbone absent from the fixture.
