He said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I want to make the shirt my own."
The former Queens Park Rangers defender has agreed a two-year contract with United and is keen to establish himself at Elland Road.
"I can't wait to get started, I've got itchy feet already," added Carlisle. "I'll be doing a bit of work because I don't want to be behind anyone when we start again.
"I want to be at least level with the other lads, but I'm chomping at the bit to start training and playing again. I've got a lot to prove. I'm unproven at this level and I want to do well. I want to make the shirt my own."
The former England U-21 international was impressed by Blackwell's plans for The Whites and is relishing the prospect of working for the new Leeds manager.
"The manager wants that blend of youth and experience and he wants people who want to play football and give their all," concluded Carlisle. "The prospects at Leeds are awesome and I just thought if I can be a part of what Kevin is trying to achieve here then I'll jump in with two feet."
