The former Middlesbrough striker has scored 30 Premier League goals, the last of which was scored whilst playing for Boro in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa nearly two years ago.
Since then, he has been released by the Teeside club due to his frequent trouble with injuries.
Christie has spent the last few months playing for the Leeds reserves and has been regaining his match fitness, and it now seems likely that Gary McAllister will offer him a 12 month contract at Elland Road.
The Stamford born player's previous clubs include Nuneaton Borough, Derby County as well as Middlesbrough.
He recently rejected a contract from Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough.
