England U-21 international defender Cranie left Southampton to join Pompey on a free transfer in the summer of 2007.
The versatile defender, who can play anywhere across the back line, had made a couple of first-team appearances for Pompey but joined QPR on a three-month loan, only to suffer a broken leg just six games into his spell.
Some QPR fans at the time were even comparing Cranie to a young Bobby Moore, giving Pompey fans an idea of just how well he was playing.
Capped nine times at U-21 level, Cranie is regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in the country and is expected to play a significant role in Pompey's future.
