He is a very solid prospect as a left back, rather than as a left winger as reported in some publications. Fergie can tell if a player's got it or not, and he shows no sentiment in that aspect of management.

If a lad has got it in him to play at the top level, then he'll get his chance, otherwise he'll be shipped out. Danny has been knocking on the first-team door for a couple of seasons now, but hasn't been helped by the emergence of John O'Shea.

He's benefited from training alongside the great Laurent Blanc, and can't have failed to learn a thing or two from Silvestre, Brown, Rio et al.

Pugh appeared in three Champions League games last season, twice as second half sub in wins against Maccabi Haifa and Juventus and also a full 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat in Deportivo La Coruna, and gave decent performances in each game. He's not afraid to get forward and is pretty pacy.

He's not the biggest lad, but at 21 he still has time to fill out and can definitely be a decent signing for Leeds as a reliable left sided defender.
