The Whites head coach has spent the weekend considering his options after receiving permission to talk to the Cumbrians, and he was expected to confirm his plans during a meeting today.
United are keen to keep Carver ahead of the new season, and he admitted last week that the prospect of leaving had tempered his interest in Carlisle's approach.
Carver is still in contention to become assistant manager at Leeds following the departure of Sam Ellis.
Carver said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I'm meeting with the manager and we'll be discussing our plans for next Monday (start of pre-season training). That's my only concern at the moment."
