Derry, who has been out injured since last December, is nearing fitness but seems set to be sent out on loan by Wise.
Wise said: "I have talked with Shaun about allowing him to go on loan. In midfield, it is looking okay at the moment, even with Alan Thompson out for a while.
"A loan move would be a good opportunity for Shaun to get some fitness. There is a certain standard of fitness needed and Shaun needs to improve on that, even from last season when he was playing.
"He needs to get past that level, and he needs to play. He can go on loan, get fit, and we will take it from there.
"My long-term plans, at this present moment, are that he wouldn't figure. But it changes and the door is not shut for Shaun.
"I am trying to use common sense and do the right thing. Last season, I had Richard Cresswell and Hayden Foxe who didn't train, and Robbie Blake sometimes. I can't use our games for someone to build the fitness up.
"It is about the team, it is not about individuals. When Shaun comes back, how long will it be? Six weeks? I am certainly not disregarding him, you have to understand that. If he gets up to the level, I will look at him."
