The Forest boss Paul Hart, a former Leeds coach, has been linked with a move for the former England international, who managed a full ninety minutes of United's reserve game on Wednesday. although chairman Peter Ridsdale has said he was no longer up to the rigours of Premiership football.

Forest, who recently sold midfielder David Prutton to Southampton, have denied they are looking at replacing the England under-21 international with for the United midfielder.

"There's no truth whatsoever in the reports linking us with David Batty. He's not a player who has ever figured on our wanted list," said a Forest spokesman.
