Preston and Luton are interested in the £700k former Leeds captain once Elland Road is open for transfer business again on June 1 following a creditors' meeting to agree Ken Bates' survival plan.

Nicholls may favour a return to his old club, now managed by Kevin Blackwell, the former Leeds boss who signed him last season, but Preston's Paul Simpson will offer a chance to reach the Premiership.
