After beating a young Hull City side last week goals from Simon Lenighan, Chris Wood and Brad Dockerty saw the Blues back up another impressive pre-season display with Eoghan Stokes replying for United.

Midfielder Lenighan, who was released by Leeds last summer and is currently on trial with Frickley having spent last season with Harrogate and Alfreton Town, fired the Blues ahead after only four minutes with a strong shot from 25 yards out.

Frickley striker Chris Wood doubled the lead 10 minutes later when he powerfully headed home Lenighan’s fine cross.

Leeds started to get a foothold in the game and Frank Mulhern saw his free-kick come back off the crossbar.

Stokes got Leeds back into the game, side-footing home from 15 yards following a good flowing move.

Wood went close again with a header for the hosts while Zeph Thomas also came close to scoring before United were presented with a great opportunity to get back into the game when they were awarded a penalty for a trip on local lad Frank Mulhern on 41 minutes.

However, Chris Dawson’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by home keeper Sam Leigh, diving to his right.

Leeds threatened more after the break, but keeper Leigh denied Luke Parkin before keeping the Blues ahead with another fine save on 51 minutes.

Mulhern was the next to go close for Leeds while the busy Lenighan again threatened for the Blues.

Frickley did stretch their lead on 70 minutes when their own promising youngster Brad Dockerty came up with the goal of the game when he beat two men before firing the ball home from 20 yards.

Ronaldo Viera replaced Tom Lyman for Leeds in the closing stages before a good crowd of 399, but he was unable to make any impact and the Blues held on for another good victory which augurs well for them in the Evo-Stik Premier League campaign.
