United have had their 'standstill agreement' with the principal creditors extended until next Monday and the players met with club officials and representatives of the Professional Footballers' Association to discuss the financial plight today.

A statement on Leeds' official website said: "There has been a positive meeting between the players, the club and the PFA.

"The players are now fully aware of the financial position of the club and are prepared to offer support should it be required."

Among the issues discussed was the option of deferring a percentage of the players' wages to help the club save £5m to continue until the end of the season.

PFA chief Mick McGuire said: "The players are offering financial support. That might mean deferment of some of their wages but nothing is agreed yet."
