The Colombia international, yet to appear for City after arriving in late 2009, has a wealth of experience gained from spells in South America, Africa and Europe.
Simon Grayson said: "David's played for the international team. He's someone we've watched a few times and we feel he's a player who can push Kasper (Schmeichel) and Shane (Higgs). We're delighted Man City have let him come and delighted to have that extra competition."
