Gray said, after yesterday's defeat: “At present, I can’t throw any light on the managerial situation.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen behind the scenes. The only thing I can say is the board have asked me to take over as caretaker and that’s it.
“If somebody else comes in next week then all well and good, but whoever comes in, it’s going to be a hard task. You look at the league table, you see the position off the field and you look at what you’ve got to work with and it’s going to be difficult.
“I still think the club is an attraction, the supporters were terrific, but it will be hard to get results.
“I expected a better performance from them, but it didn’t materialise. I didn’t expect them to get beat 2-0 at home.
“It doesn’t make it any easier for the club to employ someone, given the situation it is in, especially if people are worried about their reputations.”
