Gray said in the Yorkshire Post: "I don't think the problems were ever to do with not showing the right working ethic, I think it was more to do with a lack of self-belief.
"When that happens to players they start to feel a little bit sorry for themselves and they do not try things they should be trying, they feel as though everything is going against them.
"It has been our job to try and put positive thoughts into their heads. I do think their meeting with Trevor Birch has made them feel a little bit more comfortable about the situation.
"We know there is going to be a lot of speculation for a long time so it is nice to hear what is going on from those who know.
"They are paid to play football though and that is what they now need to keep on doing."
