The result leaves Leeds looking unlikely to take one of the two automatic promotion places and they must now cope without Billy Paynter too, with the striker set for a three-game ban after an apparent headbutt on Shane Lowry earned him a late red card.
"I'm hugely disappointed and we got what we deserved which was nothing," said Grayson. "To lose at important stage of the season and in a derby game is annoying and frustrating. We didn't get going. We knew they'd make it difficult and ugly and scrap but we didn't compete or win enough battles. It was hugely frustrating all round.
"But we have to accept it and take it on the chin that we were beaten by a team that showed they wanted it more than us. We got a bad result at Swansea three weeks ago and responded in the right manner, and we have to do that again."
