Town - currently fourth in the Championship - are believed to have made an approach to take Hunt before tomorrow’s emergency loan deadline.
A deal for the Eire international would run until January and he is one of two strikers in line to quit United in the next 24 hours.
Leeds have already agreed a deal to loan Nicky Ajose to League One Crewe Alexandra for the rest of 2014 and Hunt also looks likely to move on.
Hunt has been a peripheral figure at Elland Road all season and has not played for the first team since the opening week in August.
His two-year contract is into its final 12 months and will expire next summer. He is yet to score a competitive goal for Leeds.
Hunt and Ajose are working to finalise their transfers ahead of tomorrow’s 5pm loan deadline.
