Sakho is on a year's loan from Marseille with a view to a permanent signing, and he earned a standing ovation for an exciting debut in yesterday's 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

Sakho, who operated mainly on the left flank, provided plenty of thrills, helped to set up Mark Viduka's equaliser and became an instant hit with the crowd before being substituted on the hour as he began to feel the affects of his tireless workrate.

The Chief said: "We saw how good Sakho is when we played in the Dublin tournament. The crowd loved his performance. He will be a favourite like Harry was, once he starts scoring.

"He is exciting to watch, he certainly excites me. You give him the ball and he can play tricks with his pace and skill. He will give a lot of defenders problems and could be a surprise package for us this season.

"I don't think you can compare him with Harry because he is his own person. He is willing to work hard and play for the team."

The only problem now is that if he continues displaying performances like this, will he get poached by a club with more money and clout than Leeds?

Peter Reid also praised his new arrivals following the 2-2 draw.

He said: "I thought there were a lot of good performances. Jody did brilliantly for us today, he got up and down. Domi was tremendous and Sakho has ability and pace.

"Newcastle have a lot of pace, we tried to slow the game down, drop off and let them have it, then try and consolidate the space in behind. The players did tremendously well."

Reid also expressed delight with the way his players put the club's recent troubles behind them to play their part in a pulsating encounter and the Leeds manager also praised the performance of referee Alan Wiley for dealing with the succession of tricky decisions which came his way.
