Coly is keen on a move away from Lens and has his sights set on England after falling out of favour with Lens boss Joel Muller and has turned down a new three-year deal at the club.
Leeds chief scout Ian Broomfield revealed to planetfootball.com that Terry Venables is a big fan of the player.
"Yes we have been scouting Ferdinand Coly," Broomfield told planetfootball.com.
"We knew of the boy during his time at Lens before he went to the World Cup.
"Terry Venables was impressed by him from watching him at the World Cup and he has been a figure of long-term interest.
"I have been over twice this season to watch him in action for Lens. There is a definite interest from Leeds in Coly.
"We are monitoring his situation like a lot of clubs and with him being out of contract at the end of the season that is why a number of clubs are keeping an eye on him."
