Gray continues as caretaker boss until the end of the season after stepping up from his role as club ambassador to take over from Peter Reid in November.
"Any person who lets someone with the talent of Eddie Gray leave the club would be a maniac," said Lorimer. "There is no question he will be involved, he has too much to offer."
Leeds chairman Gerald Krasner has also publicly backed Gray. But the Scot may not be able to carry on in his current position beyond the summer unless he gets the necessary coaching qualifications for the top-flight.
The Premier League granted Gray special permission until the end of the season but then he is likely to need to attain a Uefa Pro License coaching certificate or a management diploma to continue.
