Don Revie's Leeds side had lost only three of 52 games by March 28. Then the season collapsed as they won only one of the final 10 games in a fixture pile-up schedule due to the early playing of the Mexico World Cup.
On April 1 Leeds lost at home to Celtic in the European Cup semi-final first leg - their eighth game in 22 days - as Everton clinched the title.
On April 11 they drew the FA Cup final with Chelsea, then drew the second leg in Glasgow to go out of Europe before losing the Cup replay at Old Trafford on April 29 to finish with nothing.
Arsenal appear to be going the same way.
Lorimer said: "We had a great run that season but things can change around so quickly.
"When you are going for too many things, your players get tired come the back end of the season. It just needs you to lose one thing for the fatigue to take over and change the whole situation. Once the run is broken the pressure builds on you. Back in 1970 I remember the pressure increased with each defeat."
