But he is well aware that the form of his one-time understudy, Robinson, is the reason for his lack of opportunities this season and has vowed to stay and fight for a first team place.
"I'm sitting on the bench every week and that's not what I want to be doing at this stage of my career," Martyn told the club's official website.
"But obviously Paul's form is dictating that at the moment, all I can do is keep on working hard and hope I get a chance.
"He's pushed me for the past two years and brought my form on and I have to do the same. He's aware that if he has a few bad games then he'll be under pressure."
