The 24-year-old Scot struck four times in a 6-0 defeat of Hartlepool's reserves, and with Leeds team-mate Billy Paynter about to start a three-match ban, McCormack could get his reward.
Reserve-team manager Neil Redfearn said: "He was unplayable at times. There's been times in the last three or four games when he's been like that. It will give him confidence. He knows that if he goes back in the first team he'll be at it."
