Professor McKenzie stated what would happen if results did not improve.
He said in The Sun: “We want Peter to lead the team’s recovery. No time span has been identified but we have all got to perform in our jobs.
“The team has to perform and the manager has to perform. This is not a job for life.
“There are now two scenarios for the future. The team could do better or they could continue to struggle.
“Obviously the board and the supporters hope and believe that things will get better.
“I sought the advice of the fans and listened to what they had to say. But, in the end, the decision and the responsibility had to be mine.
“And I am sure there will come a time when I do not agree with what they have to say.
“This was certainly the most difficult decision I have had to make in football but I think most people understand what has happened and why it has happened.
“I do not think Peter is under any more pressure than he was immediately after last Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Everton.
“Indeed, I think he is under less as he has the full backing of the board, who have now demonstrated their commitment to him.”
The axe may not be too far away however, judging from Leeds’ next five fixtures.
Blackburn are up tomorrow at Elland Road. Then it’s successive Premiership battles against super powers Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal with a Carling Cup-tie against the Old Trafford heavyweights just to add to the pressure!
