Megson, who worked in United’s medical department before leaving for Bolton two years ago, is set to take the job of head physio at Elland Road with Sharman preparing to join to US baseball team 'The Washington Nationals' next month.
Sharman landed a lucrative offer from the Nationals last week and will step down from his position at Leeds before Christmas.
Megson is currently first-team physio at Bolton but he knows Thorp Arch well having spent seven years with United between 2006 and 2013.
His arrival will bolster a backroom staff which was weakened by news of Sharman’s impending departure and the announcement a week ago that assistant first-team physio Marc Czuczman had left United.
Sharman’s decision to move on ends an association with Leeds stretching back 14 years to 2001.
He became head physio in 2007 when his predecessor, Dave Hancock, left to join Chelsea.
Hancock subsequently relocated to America and was appointed to the medical staff of basketball team the 'New York Knicks'.
