With manager Simon Grayson giving first appearances to all six of his new signings and fielding two different sides, United were unable to recover from Jan Chovanec's 16th-minute goal for the home side in sweltering conditions.

Jonny Howson, Neill Collins and Luciano Becchio were the only starters who had appeared in the game which confirmed United's promotion two months ago.

Robert Snodgrass hit the woodwork with nine minutes remaining and South African striker Davide Somma later had a goal disallowed in a dubious offside decision.

Midfielder Tomas Brusco, from MFK Dubnika, and u21 international central defender Marian Jarabica, from Ceske Budejivice, both received 45 minutes to impress.
