Talks about a new deal have opened between the club, the player and his agent, Neil Featherby.
But Featherby has told BBC Sport Online that the ball is now in Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale's court.
"We've had initial talks with the chairman with reference to a new contract for Danny and I would like to think they were positive," he said.
"Now he (Ridsdale) has gone away to digest what we have put to him and the ball is in his court now.
"We will wait for him to come back to us."
