Swindon captain Andy Gurney scored a superb goal to earn his side a 1-0 victory and condemn Wrexham to their first away defeat of the season.
Gurney ran 40 yards before cutting in from the left and curling a right-foot shot past goalkeeper Andy Dibble and into the far corner of the net.
The midfielder almost added a second in the closing stages with a low left-foot drive which went narrowly wide of the left-hand post while on-loan Leeds teenager James Milner was unlucky not to mark an impressive home debut with a goal.
Milner, on loan for a month, headed just wide from eight yards while Dibble somehow kept out his close-range effort early in the second period.
