Former boss Terry Venables decided not to enter the competition which could have given United entry into next season UEFA Cup and Reid thinks that was a correct decision.
"I do think it's important that your players get the rest they need," he told the club's official website.
"If you got six or seven injuries you would never forgive yourself and at the end of the day it's the Premiership that's most important."
