Billy Paynter scored his first Leeds goal to seal the club`s first pre-season victory and then vowed to leave manager Simon Grayson with no choice but to pick him on the opening day of the new Championship campaign.
Paynter's second-half volley against MFK Kosice helped United round off their two-game tour of Slovakia with a 1-0 win on Friday night.
"There's a battle on for places - a friendly competition. I want to make sure that I give the gaffer something to think about at the start of the season," the free transfer from Swindon told the Yorkshire Post.
"The aim has to be to make it impossible for him to leave me out. I knew when I came here that I wasn't guaranteed a place, that I'd have to work hard for it and show him that I do deserve to be in the team.
"When you come to a new club you want to hit the ground running and it's nice to get a goal. It's a personal bonus for me and very pleasing to get off the mark.
"Every time I go on the pitch I feel that if I get a chance I'll produce a goal. It's how you're judged."
