Play at Elland Road - Football Aid
Last updated : 04 February 2002 By
In May 2001, a lot of dreams came true. All over the country, over 1,200 people wore their team colours, walked down the tunnel and took part in a 90-minute game on the hallowed turf of their cherished clubs.
Dozens of well-known club legends lent their support to Football Aid to captain the fans' teams.
Liam Brady, Gary Mabbutt, Imre Varadi, Cyrille Regis, Steve Bull, Danny McGrain, Tommy Burns and Mark Hately are among the football heroes who have taken to the fields to lead the Football Aid players out of the tunnels.
In its first year, Football Aid raised nearly £250,000 and are looking to surpass this total in 2002.
Grants were awarded to diabetes research projects, charities and voluntary organisations nominated by the clubs as well as supporting the nominated charities of the football authorities.
Football Aid has kicked off its 2001 / 2002 campaign with a new look website, team places to bid for, and a new improved version of their famous keepie-up screensaver.
