The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal last week, but was not included in boss Neil Warnock's squad for the weekend win over Bristol City.
Poleon, who made his first-team breakthrough at Leeds this summer, has made one start and six substitute appearances for United this season, scoring his only goal in the home win over Nottingham Forest in September, while he hit the target twice in eight appearances during a loan spell at Bury late last year.
Warnock said: "Dom's got a chance and he came on and scored against Forest, we sent him out on loan to Bury for a couple of months, he's been here for a few years and we wanted to give him a reward.
"He's working hard so we thought we'd extend his contract again and then possibly let him out again, depending on circumstances over the next few weeks. If we aren't going to use him then we may let him go on loan."
