Reid said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It's a big game. We've got a tough run of fixtures, but these are the sort of games you look forward to.
"When I saw the fixtures for October I thought 'great'. Players love big games and I'm no different.
"The lads are looking sharp in training which is pleasing. They're working hard and we'll put in a good week at Thorp Arch to get ready for the Man United game."
Reid is used to big city rivalries from his days managing Sunderland in many Tyne-Wear clashes with Newcastle United and at Everton when he played regularly against Merseyside rivals Liverpool in the 80's and of course when he first played for, and managed, Man City against their red neighbours.
The visit of Manchester United is traditionally the biggest game of the season, with Leeds fans keen to see their side beat their trans-pennine foes as they did last season when Harry Kewell scored the only goal at Elland Road.
Possibly the only highlight last season under Venables.
That victory was United's first since a David Wetherall goal ensured a 1-0 victory in September 1997 under George Graham.
