The 37-year-old goalkeeper will remain at Elland Road until at least the end of next season after he activated an appearance-related clause in his initial deal.
Green signed a one-year contract with United after leaving Queens Park Rangers last summer.
The deal included a provision offering him another 12 months at Elland Road if he played a certain number of times this term.
The England international has been ever-present in United’s Championship campaign, first choice ahead of Marco Silvestri, and is set to make his 39th outing of the season in tonight’s clash with Brighton.
