The Best & Worst Players Explained

In the latest edition of the football magazine 442, there is an additional magazine with the best and worst signings of all time for every League team in the country.

I was asked to choose the best and worst for Leeds United.

I chose Strachan, not because he is better than say Allan Clarke, Mick Jones, Tony Currie, Duncan McKenzie and the like. I chose him because he changed the fortunes of an ailing club, in the doldrums in the Second Division.

He got us promotion in his first full season. We won the First Division Championship in his 3rd full season and back into European competition. He won the Footballer of the Season award to boot and a re-call to the Scotland team.

Not many signings achieved that with Leeds. He made the Whites a force again and everyone was proud to be 'Leeds' in the city.

As for the worst, it could have been anyone over the last few years or so. Lee Sharpe springs to mind but Tomas Brolin got it because everyone was expecting great things from the Swedish superstar, who scored a brilliant goal against England in the Euro Championships in '96.

He never again reached those heights and that's why he was so disappointing.
