Elland Road resembled the Somme when Eddie Gray picked up the ball one May day in 1970, waltzed past a phalanx of Burnley defenders with the ball on a string and slotted home as good a goal as I have seen any player of any team score. And why not ask Gray about how he would be kicked to death by rogue defenders if you think cynicism was the preserve of Yorkshire Vikings?
